The society has been running for over 45 years and it has seen some highs and lows over that period. It would be good to think that it could carry on for another 45 years.
In the early days there seemed to be keen dahlia growers and showers in every village. The membership was very high and they had their annual dinner at hotels in Morecambe, when two coach loads of people came from the Barrow-in-Furness area alone.
The society used to hold the annual show at the Wintergardens in Morecambe and also on the promenade.
Over the years the popularity of showing has declined but thanks to various people along the way the society has kept going and we currently have around 45 members.
The personnel may have changed but the aims to grow, show and promote the dahlia have stayed the same. The aim now is to carry on as best we can with a new venue for the show [Ingleton] and a committed committee, who we hope can achieve this.
